On 23 March, the Evangelical Reformed Church in Lithuania (ERCL), a member of the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC), held an extraordinary Synod where, among other issues, 33 voting members reelected Thomas Šernas as General Superintendent for another three-year term and Rimas Mikalauskas, a local pastor in Birzai, as Vice Superintendent. Petras Puodziunas was elected as the new President of the Consistory (Church Board). A number of ecumenical guests and state officials, including Deputy Ministry of Justice Paulinus Griciunas among others, attended the Synod meeting in Vilnius. Balázs Ódor, Ecumenical Officer of the RCH, was present as the representative of WCRC Europe.

Partner churches from around the world sent letters of greeting and solidarity on the special occasion. The WCRC's General Secretary, Setri Nyomi, and the organization's European area president, Jan-Geerd Heetderks, were among those expressing their support and prayer for the decisive Synod meeting. WCRC Europe was represented by its vice-president, Balázs Ódor, who in his greeting words emphasized that beyond solidarity his presence was also a testimony of the Reformed family, as WCRC sees the Synod as the rightful representation of the ERCL and the historic Reformed community in Lithuania.

The Executive Committee of the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) has voted to relocate its offices from Geneva, Switzerland to Hanover, Germany. The results of the vote taken via email were announced today by WCRC President Jerry Pillay.
"We welcome the move to Hanover which allows WCRC to continue to live out its mission as a Communion of churches. We will remain focused on our mandate of seeking church unity and justice in society and the economy and respect for the environment," Pillay says in a statement.
The move comes in response to concerns about the cost of running an organization in Switzerland. These include staff salaries and the high value of the Swiss franc. Most WCRC membership fees and donations are made in Euros or American dollars that have dropped in value in the past several years against the strong Swiss franc.

A large number of believers gathered at the Return Service in the Vilnius Evangelical Reformed church building which had been closed for the Vilnius Evangelical Reformed congregation for many years. The church, located in the Vilnius Old Town, was opened only a week ago under the ordinance of the bailiff. By Evangelical Reformed Synod of Lithuania in 2002 suspended deacon Algimantas Kvedaravičius and few his supporters only were able freely to enter the building during the last decade.
Despite the long-lasting effort to solve the problem of Algiamntas Kvedaravičius and his small group supporters' resistance the members of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Lithuania and the reformed Christian community in Vilnius remained united. Being deprived of the church building of their own, the community found shelter under the roof of the church of the Evangelical Lutheran church. Now the Reformed can gather at their own church building again.

On October 28 the evangelical reformed in Vilnius felt elated while gathering to their own temple to celebrate the Return Service with Baptism, Confirmation and Lord‘s Supper.
After the week full of good news concerning the decision made by Vilnius district court and the bailiff‘s ordinance to return the Lithuanian reformed churches in Vilnius, Salamiestis and Papilys, which were illegally taken away up till now from congregations, to the Synod of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Lithuania (Unitas Lithuaniae) I was bombarded with congratulations and comments via email, my wired phone and mobile phone. I could hardly find time to answer all the calls. The evangelical reformed congregation members, who had not „found" their way to church making excuses that they were waiting for their own church to open the door for them, inquired whether it was true that the coming Sunday we were going to pray in our own historical church and whether our eight-year „exile" was over.

Please give your support to our friend, our parish member, our sister in faith - Aida Rabaciauskiene. For several long years she has been struggling in fight against the cunning disease. Still she fights bravely, without moaning and shows us all great example of her spiritual strength and positive energy.
Recently all Lithuania could witness her admiring strength in the documentary movie „God has created everything except a carpet", shown in the Vilnius international film festival „Kino pavasaris 2012". Holding our breath, in this movie we all have seen the naked truth - Aida's battle with the challenge given her by fate. The Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) is extremely rare hereditary cancer predisposition syndrome which causes all oncologic diseases to be more difficult to cure and makes the disease renew again and again.
