THE EVANGELICAL REFORMED CHURCH of LITHUANIA
UNITAS LITHUANIAE SYNOD (ERCL -UNITAS LITHUANIAE SYNOD)
Introduction. The Evangelical Reformed Church of Lithuania as a united Reformed Church organization in Lithuania's church province can be counted from the year 1557 at the Synod in Vilnius on December 14th of that year. From that year the Synod met regularly forming all the church provinces of The Grand Duchy Of Lithuania, at first from two and later growing to six districts and representative district synods. The abbreviated name for the church is in Latin, Unitas Lithuaniae (shorter-UL) or in Polish, Jednota Litewska (Union of provincial Church in Lithuania). It sent its representatives to the General Polish/Lithuanian Synods; however in it's administration it was in fact a self-governing Church. The first Superintendent was Rev. Simonas Zacijus (Szymon Zacjusz, approx 1507-1591). In 1565 the anti- Trinitarian Lithuanian Brotherhood who rejected the learning of the Trinity separated from UL. The UL parish network covered nearly all of The Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Its district centers were Vilnius, Kedainai, Biržai, Slucke, Kojdanove and Zabludove later Izabeline. The Church in Lithuania grew weaker due to the effects of war and the counter-reformation. Up until the Second World War, The Reformed Church in Lithuania had about 10,000 believers. Now the Church has over 7,000 believers with parishes in Biržai and Biržai region, Vilnius, Kedainai, Klaipeda and the other large towns. The UL has, since 1924, been a WARC member and also maintained relations with the Reformed Churches in Germany, Switzerland, France, Poland, Hungary, Sweden, Scotland, The Netherlands and The U.S.A. The Highest institution of The UL is the Synod consisting of the pastors (kunigai), catechists called also deacons (katechetai, diakonai), the secular, senior curates (kuratoriai) and delegates (delegatai) from the evangelical reformed congregations. An inter Synod institution works during the time between synod assemblies in Biržai consisting of the Consistory and the senior minister, the church (general) superintendent. Ministers are trained in the University of Klaipėda and abroad.

Kaunas parish youth in their own name and on behalf of Danute Indriunaite express a sincere thank to all people of good will, whose plentiful financial donations made the complicated operation possible and wish them God's blessing and peace! Brothers and sisters in Christ.
Believe us, it is difficult to appeal publicly to everybody and ask for help, but the life is not merciful and sometimes it hits to the one of the most important conditions being here - to our survivors' health.
This has happened to our sister Danute Nindriunaite. She suffers from hypothalamic dysfunction, and this disease is lead by essential hypertension, higher amount of glucoses in blood and of 68 degree overweight.
Recently Danute was at Kaunas clinics, where she was recommended for surgical treatment of obesity - gastric bypass operation. According to doctors other treatments at the chronic disease, will not be effective. This operation costs 7000 Litas, and it is not reimbursed by the Patient funds. Danute saved 2000 Litas for operation herself; however the greater part of the money is still missing. Therefore we apply to all people of goodwill, to the closest in faith and understanding of life.
We are greatly asking to support Danute Nindriunaite. The donations can be sent to Synod‘s account: LT174010041300081376 AB DnB NORD bank, Birzai Department, the Bank Code: 40100. Identification number of recipient (code) 192100594. Recipient name: LERB-UL-Sinodas.
Amount of collected donations and the end of the support action will be announced in the internet website www.ref.lt. It is necessary to specify the transfer purpose - DONATIONS TO DANUTE. We are grateful on behalf of Danute Nindriunaite and our own name for every kind of support. Youth of Kaunas Evangelic Reformers
It is already donated 5000 Lt for Danute's operation. It is still lacking - 0 Lt. 06-09-2010 |

Since World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC) has announced 2009 the year of John Calvin, the reformed churches from all around the world celebrate the 500th anniversary of this Great Reformat by publishing his writings. The Synod of Lithuanian Evangelic Reformed Church and the local parishes commemorate this date with a project "Calvin in untraditional places in Lithuania". There will be meetings in various locations in Lithuania, where people will read "The golden rules of Christian life" (the only book of Calvin that is translated into Lithuanian), talk and discuss about his life.
